These four versions are available in the four versions of the row. The player must start in the top left hand corner and end in the bottom right hand corner. How he/she gets there is left to the performer?s choice. There is no limit on how many of the options are played, nor how many times they are played.
This can also be combined with alea i, the piano part can be played separate from or at the same time as similar parts with the quartet. The players can choose the element(s) to be played as foreground or background. If alea i and ii are to be performed concurrently then it is for the performers to decide which score opens and closes the piece.
