[Intro]
G Em G Em
[Verse]
G Em G
I heard there was a secret chord
G Em
that David played and it pleased the Lord
C D G
But you don't really care for music do ya
G C D
It goes like this the fourth the fifth
Em C
the minor fall and the major lift
D B Em
The baffled king composing hallelujah
C Em C G D G Em G Em
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
G Em
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
G Em
You saw her bathing on the roof
C D G
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
G C D
She tied you to a kitchen chair
Em C
She broke your throne and she cut your hair
D B Em
And from your lips she drew the hallelujah
C Em C G D G Em G Em
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
G Em
Maybe I've been here before
G Em
I know this room, I've walked this floor
C D G
I used to live alone before I knew you
G C D
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
Em C
and love is not a victory march
D B Em
It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah
C Em C G D G Em G Em
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
G Em
There was a time, you let me know
G Em
what's really going on below
C D G
But now you never showed it to me do ya
G C D
I remember when I moved in you
Em C
and the holy dove was moving too
D B Em
And every breath we drew was hallelujah
C Em C G D G Em G Em
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
G Em
And maybe there's a God above
G Em
And all I ever learned from love
C D G
is how to shoot at someone who outdrew you
G C D
And it's not the cry that you hear tonight
Em C
and it's not somebody who's seen the light
D B Em
It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah
C Em C Em
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
C Em C G D G Em G Em G D G
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Pretty sure Cale performs this in the key of C.

I'm happy to have it here in G, as I play it with those shapes and capo to 4, so I play it in B. C is fine for me until he gets to the end of the verse ("It goes like this..."), and then I'm straining. I also play the B as a B7.
I suppose I could play it without the capo in B, but the shapes in the key of G are so much easier, and it's a simple song.
